INNSEP AS was founded based on the research performed by Prof. Fernandino and Prof. Dorao on gas liquid separation in 2011. The idea consisted of a rotating mesh for removal of liquid from a gas stream originally focused on the oil and gas industry, but the idea is also relevant for cleaning ship emissions and other industries. The concept won the best start-up in central Norway in 2011 during Innovator 2011 , the NTNU Discovery grant in 2011, and several innovation grants for supporting the development. Prof. Fernandino and Prof. Dorao were actively involved in the company until 2021 when they both left the company.
