The goal of this project was to develop and test new technology in the field of gas-liquid separation. A new concept of a gas-liquid separator was developed. Lab tests were performed using air and water as working fluids. A high-pressure prototype was tested at CEESI facility, USA, with hydrocarbon fluids at 60bar, with sucessful proof of concept of the new technology. This project resulted in a spin-off company (InnSep AS).

Separation of oil and water is a critical field processing operation in the oil and gas industry. Early stage oil-water separators are mainly operated as gravity separators, ending up in large gravity settling tanks due to the slow migration velocities of the dispersed phase. Owing to its large dimensions, this equipment is particularly costly to purchase and install. This is true especially for offshore and subsea installations. Optimization of gravity separators can be possible with better understanding of the phenomena governing the sedimentation process. Our activities on this project included on-demand production of micron-sized droplets, NIR visualization of water droplets in crude oil and investigation of droplet-droplet and droplet-interface coalescence for single- and multiple-droplets conditions.

Every day, people need to solve problems. These solutions imply to make decisions. Decisions can vary from trivial to more complex. All decisions contain a set of alternatives and/or values and their processing requirea a structuring and valuation thereof. Our research has focused on developing an integrated multi-criteria and multi-level framework for decision making on projects, to facilitate effective and efficient utilization of information and computational resources in order to improve the efficiency and effectiveness in these projects. The work was based on game theory as a constructor of the integrated framework considering the cooperative and non-cooperative Nash and Leader-Followers games concepts.
